Strains Due to Coupled Phenomena – Particle-level Analyses

چکیده
The interaction between the solid particles and the pore fluid in granular materials affects various interparticle forces. The change in any one of these forces triggers the response of the granular skeleton, causes strain and even important fabric changes. Coupling phenomena that result in skeletal strains are related to fluid properties, electrical-chemical interactions, and thermal effects. The relevance of such couplings increases as the particle size d and the effective skeletal confinement σ' decrease, and well-defined coupling regions can be defined in the d-σ' space. Experimental results support order-of-magnitude estimates based on particle-level analyses.

Lattice Boltzmann simulation of EGM and solid particle trajectory due to conjugate natural convection
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the EGM method and the behavior of a solid particle suspended in a twodimensional rectangular cavity due to conjugate natural convection. A thermal lattice Boltzmann BGK model is implemented to simulate the two dimensional natural convection and the particle phase was modeled using the Lagrangian–Lagrangian approach where the solid particles are treat...
متن کاملArterial Blood Flow Blockage Time Due to an Interaction between a Foreign Second Phase and an Externally Originated Particle
A huge number of deaths in the world are the direct or indirect consequence of a disease which is called atherosclerosis. The disease could be due to an artery blockage by the interaction of an externally second phase with a particle which is entered to the bloodstream. The effect of some most important physical and geometrical affecting parameters on the blockage time of a microchannel due to ...
متن کاملForced-Vibration Analysis of a Coupled System of SLGSs by Visco- Pasternak Medium Subjected to a Moving Nano-particle
In this study, forced-vibration analysis of a coupled system of single layered graphene sheets (SLGSs) subjected to the moving nano-particle is carried out based on nonlocal elasticity theory of orthotropic plate. Two SLGSs are coupled with elastic medium which is simulated by Pasternak and Visco-Pasternak models. Using Hamilton’s principle, governing differential equations of motion are derive...
متن کاملStudying Peak Particle Velocity Due to Blast in Development Tunnels’ Face in Coal Stoping
The impact of blast-driven shocks on the safety and stability of the underground coal mines has been well established. The seismic imperfections resulting from blasting depend on the total explosive energy released during blasting and the closeness of the development tunnel face to the stope face. Also, the quality of the rock mass wherein the whole stope face is located might pose considerable...
متن کاملEUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH Laboratory for Particle Physics (CRI) ANISOTROPIC CONSTITUTIVE MODEL OF STRAIN-INDUCED PHENOMENA IN STAINLESS STEELS AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES
A majority of the thin-walled components subjected to intensive plastic straining at cryogenic temperatures are made of stainless steels. The examples of such components can be found in the interconnections of particle accelerators, containing the superconducting magnets, where the thermal contraction is absorbed by thin-walled, axisymetric shells called bellows expansion joints. The stainless ...
